The Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Major Godfrey Katamba, has expressed concern over emerging security threats in the district, including incidents involving unidentified gunmen.

Speaking on Friday at the closure of a five-day Public Order Management (POM) training held at Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE) Kabale campus playground in Kabale Municipality, RDC (Rtd) Major Katamba revealed that on Thursday there had been an exchange of two guns in Kabale town.

He noted that the matter had been reported to both the Kabale District Police Commander and the Kigezi Regional Police Commander but expressed concern that security cameras were not functional at the time.

Katamba also cited the July 17th NRM primary elections, where unknown armed men were reportedly seen escorting politicians. He reminded officers of their duty to detect and stop such activities, impound illegal firearms, and ensure accountability, especially as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
