RUBANDA: The Rubanda District LC5 Chairman, Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba, has called on the government to provide special funding for districts with challenging terrain.
Kasyaba made this appeal on Thursday during a Mobilization Baraza organized by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Secretariat at the Rubanda District Meeting Hall.
He argued that it is unfair for the government to allocate the same amount of money for road construction and maintenance to all districts without considering geographical challenges.
“The cost of road maintenance in Buganda or Lango cannot be the same as in Kigezi because we have hills. Soon, all the roads we’ve worked on will be damaged by rain and floods,” Kasyaba stated.
He also highlighted the need for the government to consider population density when allocating road funds.
“For instance, the population in Kigezi has doubled over the last ten years, which directly impacts road usage and maintenance,” Kasyaba noted.

The team, which also included, the Commissioner of RDC’s in charge of Karamoja Affairs, Fred Bamwiine, held barazas in Kisoro and Kanungu Districts. Today, they are scheduled to meet officials from Kabale and later Rukiga District.
According to Maj. Asiimwe, the goal is to equip RDCs, their deputies, and assistant RDCs with key information about government programs being implemented in their districts to ensure proper monitoring and community sensitization.
“After all this, we expect RDCs to pass the message to the people and work collaboratively to monitor these programs, contributing to socio-economic transformation within communities,” she added.
