The Rubanda District LCV Chairperson, Steven Ampeire Kasyaba, has been officially nominated to seek re-election in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
Kasyaba, who is running on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, was nominated on Thursday at the Rubanda District Council Hall by the District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Medard Nteziyaremwe.
Nteziyaremwe confirmed that three contenders have so far expressed interest in the district’s top political seat. They include Kasyaba, Obed Habasa of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), and Julius Buzare Twinomujuni, an independent candidate.
He further revealed that the commission has nominated over 50 candidates in the last two days, though the exercise on Wednesday was affected by technical hitches that delayed the process.
“Despite the challenges experienced on the opening day, the exercise is moving on well, and we expect all candidates to be nominated within the stipulated time,” Nteziyaremwe said.

Speaking shortly after his nomination, Kasyaba pledged to focus his next term on completing stalled district projects. These include the Rubanda District General Hospital, the District Health Officer’s office, as well as water and education projects that have been pending.
“My priority will be finishing what we started. The people of Rubanda deserve a fully functional hospital, improved schools, and access to safe water. That will be my focus in the next term,” Kasyaba emphasized.
