KAMPALA – The Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Honorable Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira Mbabazi Begumisa, has been reappointed as the Commissioner of Parliament for the next two years.

Alongside Esther Afoyachan and Solomon Silwany, Prossy has been approved by Parliament as the new backbench Parliamentary Commissioners for NRM.

Parliament also confirmed the former leader of the Opposition, Honorable Mathias Mpuuga, as the Commissioner for the Opposition. The commissioners are set to serve from January 2024 to May 2026.

However, the approval of Commissioners for the NRM Party faced protest from Yorke Alion (Aringa South County), questioning the Party’s call for MPs to apply for positions when indications suggested a preference for retaining the existing team.

“In November, the Government Chief Whip requested NRM MPs to apply for Commissioner positions. Over 200 MPs applied, expecting an election within the NRM Party, as resolved in Kyankwanzi. This move raises concerns of injustice, corruption, and a disregard for the Party’s internal processes,” said Alion.
