Rubanda Women Advocate for Lower Interest Rates on Loans as Launch of “PWR” Project Marks Empowerment Milestone

RUBANDA – A Section of women in Rubanda District, are advocating for government support to their local village groups through funding at favorable interest rates.

They believe that such assistance will enable them to access loans they can comfortably repay, thereby enhancing their quality of life.

These sentiments were collectively expressed during a gathering of women from Kagunga Parish in Bufundi Sub County. The event took place at Katiba and Kisiizi primary schools on a Saturday.

The central objective of the PWR project is to equip women with the tools they need to enhance their lives and elevate their living standards.

Several women from different villages, including Miria Orishaba from Muziku village, Ferediyana Nyakwezi from Bugara village, Ninsiima Evanice from Bushaara village, Silivia Tiboruhanga from Kiriba village, and Miriam Tuyisenge from Kagunga village, expressed their concerns.

They highlighted that the current village groups they belong to provide loans to members at a steep 10 percent interest per month, which discourages many from applying due to the high rates.

These women proposed that if the government could extend its support to these village groups with a maximum interest rate of 2 percent per month, it would encourage more members to apply for loans and boost economic activities within the communities.
