RUKIGA: The Rukiga County Member of Parliament hopeful, Counsel Patrick Kiconco Katabaazi, has called for a united effort between men and women in raising children to ensure a brighter future.
He made the remarks during Women’s Day celebrations held at Kacucu Playground in Kigara Parish, Kamwezi Sub-county.
The event, organized by St. Mark Senior Secondary School Kamwezi, was a vibrant showcase of community talent, featuring traditional dances, poems, and songs of hope.
Counsel Katabaazi emphasized the critical role both parents play in child-rearing, noting that women often bear the burden alone, leading to neglect and lack of support.
“Parenting should not be a one-person responsibility; it requires the combined efforts of both parents,” he stated.
He also used the occasion to advocate for improved education, stressing the importance of providing children with quality schooling. According to Katabaazi, a strong educational foundation empowers young people to become responsible Ugandans capable of fighting poverty and contributing to community development.
As a gesture of support, he donated two computers to St. Mark Secondary School, reinforcing his commitment to enhancing educational resources.
Rev. Father Mwesigwa Nicholas also addressed the congregation, urging the community to support leaders who drive development rather than those who prioritize alcohol consumption.
