RUKUNGIRI: Leaders and Supporters of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Rukungiri District are demanding the immediate release of the Four time Presidential Candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye, whose health is rapidly deteriorating at Luzira Prison.
The leaders and supporters, who gathered holding placards, called on President Museveni and his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to release Dr. Besigye and all other political prisoners. They also urged religious leaders to speak out against the injustice in the country.
The group appealed to the Ugandan Prisons Commissioner, Johnson Byabashaija, to uphold the rule of law and allow Dr. Besigye to receive medical treatment, stressing the urgency of his critical condition.
At a press conference held on Monday at the FDC offices in Rukungiri, FDC District Spokesperson Innocent Museveni Rubarondesa stated that Dr. Besigye’s health was rapidly worsening and emphasized the need for immediate medical attention. Rubarondesa pointed out that Dr. Besigye, like every Ugandan, is entitled to healthcare as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The Rukungiri Municipality FDC Chairperson, Honest Tushemerirwe, also appealed to the women of Rukungiri to support the efforts to secure Dr. Besigye’s release, expressing concern for his life if he remains imprisoned.
