RUKUNGIRI: Authorities in Rukungiri Municipality have launched the rehabilitation of 5 kilometers of roads, valued at 688,512,300 Million Shillings.
The roads to be rehabilitated include Kafunjo-Katwekamwe Road (1.6 km), Kanyanga-Ntunkura Road (1.4 km), Keitumura Road (0.9 km) in Eastern Division, and Ndorero-Nshure Road (1.1 km) in Southern Division.
The contract has been awarded to SBR General Supply and Construction Limited, with the project expected to take six months. The scope of work includes site clearance, heavy grading, gravelling, drainage works, and erection of project signboards.
While launching the rehabilitation works at Kanyanga Cell, Rwetondo Ward, Eastern Division in Rukungiri Municipality on Tuesday, Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, the Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, warned the contractors against shoddy work. He also reiterated his commitment to lobbying for electricity and water to further develop the communities.

Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Nsubuga Stephen Bewayo, asked local residents to capitalize on the newly constructed roads as a means to boost household income. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the community for their unwavering cooperation throughout the project’s execution, especially for their willingness to support it without seeking compensation for the land and crops affected.
