The situation is especially challenging for elders and expectant mothers, who struggle with long distances and heavy loads. According to a survey done by our reporter, the scarcity is mostly affecting the villages of Mukibungo and Nyabishakyi in Kafunjo parish.
Deusdedit Byaruhanga, a resident of Kashenyi parish, says that it has been almost one year since the area was hit by the problem. Byaruhanga mentions that residents have to travel approximately 3.5 kilometers to reach water sources in Kyirimbe. He noted that the area lacks accessible roads, making it impossible for even motorcycles to transport water.

Beatrace Bitarema, the Rukungiri District councilor and a resident of Kacenkye, says that most of the areas with water access were extended by the Church of Uganda, not the government. She states that many parishes, such as Nyamirama, Kafunjo, Bikongozo, Birare, Mabindi, and areas bordering Kanungu district, have no access to water except during the rainy season.
