RWAMPARA: Women leaders in Rwampara District have urged Parliament to fast-track the establishment of a women’s bank to enhance financial empowerment.
The appeal was made to Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa during the district’s Women’s Day celebrations, held under the leadership of the area Woman MP, Hon. Molly Asiimwe, on Saturday.
In addition to advocating for the bank, the women leaders called on the government to strengthen markets for products and services generated through government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), and the Youth Livelihood Programme.
Speaking as the guest of honor, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa emphasized that women deserve daily recognition for their invaluable contributions.
He described them as the cornerstone of family stability, a driving force in the fight against poverty, and the pillars sustaining churches and schools.
“These vital contributions form the foundation of any functional community,” Tayebwa stated.
Acknowledging the critical roles women play in society, he urged men to abandon domestic violence and instead support women in the collective effort to build stronger, more resilient communities.
