The Minister of Security and Rujumbura County Member of Parliament, Major General (retired) Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, has dismissed circulating claims regarding the ownership and deployment of ambulances in Bwambara Sub county, describing them as misleading and aimed at sowing confusion among residents.
Minister Muhwezi explained that Bwambara Sub county has indeed received two ambulances, one personally donated by himself and another brought in by the senior presidential advisor on agriculture, Peace Rugambwa.
He noted that this development is a major boost to healthcare delivery in the vast sun county, which stretches all the way to Lake Edward (Rwenshama).
“I personally donated one ambulance, and Hon. Peace also brought another. This is good news for the people of Bwambara. Those alleging that I stopped the President’s ambulance are simply detractors. There’s no truth to that claim,” he clarified.
The Minister emphasized that ambulances are community resources meant to serve beyond administrative boundaries, ensuring timely emergency medical response across the wider Rukungiri District.
“Ambulances have no borders. Though stationed at specific health facilities, they serve all neighboring sub counties as need arises,” Minister Muhwezi said.
He outlined the current ambulance coverage as follows:
The ambulance at Bwambara Health Centre III serves Bwambara, Bikurungu, Nyabubare, Kakoni, Kikonji, and parts of Ruhinda such as Nyarwimuka and Nyakitabire.
The second ambulance extends services to Rwenshama, Garuka, Kikarara, and surrounding communities.
The Bugangari ambulance covers Bugangari, Rwerere and Nyakagyeme.
The Buhunga ambulance supports Buhunga, upper Ruhinda, and parts of the Municipality and Buyanja.
Minister Muhwezi urged residents to focus on the positive strides being made to improve health services rather than engaging in divisive debates.
“What matters most is that all our people have timely access to emergency medical services. Let’s appreciate these efforts rather than create unnecessary divisions,” he said.
Minister Muhwezi reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that every resident of Rujumbura County can access life-saving medical transport whenever the need arises.
