KAMPALA: The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has reiterated his call for young people to seek guidance and mentorship before venturing into active politics after completing their education, in order to avoid common mistakes.
SG Todwong made these remarks on Saturday at Nkumba University while facilitating over 730 student leaders from various universities who are attending a two-week patriotism course.
“I urge you to always seek advice and guidance from senior leaders to help groom you into responsible future leaders,” SG Todwong stated.
He also encouraged the students to draw inspiration from the conduct of President Yoweri Museveni, particularly in the way he manages the country’s affairs.
Like President Museveni, Todwong emphasized the importance of approaching politics and leadership with honesty and patience to prevent errors along the way.
Furthermore, Mr. Todwong cautioned young leaders against following individuals who promote politics based on sectarianism and tribal divisions.
“Once you hear a leader advocating for sectarianism, tribalism, or religious divides, know that this person is not a true leader,” Mr. Todwong asserted. “Be authentic, seek serious mentorship, and focus on building yourself to have the capacity to address the challenges faced by your community. Only then will you be able to make a real impact in your area of origin.”
