Residents of Kanyangeya Main Cell in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, have been left in shock following the discovery of an unidentified body inside an unfinished house.
The Local Council I Chairperson of the area, Deo Isemamba, confirmed the incident to our reporter at the scene.
According to Isemamba, residents became suspicious after a strong foul smell began coming from an unfinished house belonging to Rojomba Ngobi, who reportedly does not reside at the property.
He said neighbors inspected the building on Thursday morning and discovered the body of an unknown person inside. Preliminary observations indicate that the deceased may have been dead for at least four days, as the body had already started decomposing.
Isemamba noted that there are no known suspicious groups or strangers operating in the area who could immediately be linked to the incident.
He urged owners of unfinished houses to secure their properties, especially if they are not yet occupied, to prevent them from becoming hideouts or sites for criminal activities.
One of the residents, Joyce Biira Kiripe, attributed such incidents to growing economic hardships affecting many young people.
She said some parents pressure their children to search for any available work to support families, which can sometimes expose them to risky situations due to limited opportunities.
Kiripe encouraged parents and youth to embrace government vocational training programs as a way of gaining practical skills and creating employment opportunities instead of loitering in urban areas without jobs.
Other residents told our reporter that although the area last recorded a similar incident more than seven years ago, cases of unidentified bodies are occasionally reported in neighboring communities.
