Police in Bushenyi District have arrested two suspects over alleged human trafficking involving 10 young women aged between 18 and 22, according to the Greater Bushenyi Region Police spokesperson, Tayebwa Apollo.
The suspects have been identified as Agaba Innocent, 24, a resident of Nyakashaaru Cell in Rubirizi District, and Nayebare Getrude, 24, a resident of Mpoma II Cell, Kajuzya Parish, Nkungu Sub-county in Kazo District.
According to SP Tayebwa, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly lured the victims with fake job offers at “Nature’s Way” in Ishaka Town.
The victims, most of whom are Senior Four leavers, were reportedly confined, closely monitored, and forced to recruit other young women while soliciting money from their relatives.
“Ten victims have been rescued, and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects,” SP Tayebwa said.
He cautioned the public, particularly youths, parents, and guardians, to verify job opportunities before accepting them and to promptly report any suspicious recruitment schemes to the nearest police station or local authorities.
