KAMPALA: The Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs (Defence), Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, has commended the cordial relationship between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Uganda, particularly in defence, security, trade, and investment.
“The partnership between our two sister countries has grown stronger over the years and was further cemented by a Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation executed on 10 July 2021. This MoU provides the framework for cooperation in the defence and security sector,” said Hon. Nyirabashitsi.
Minister Nyirabashitsi made these remarks during a meeting yesterday with Ms. Katerina Sequensova, the Director General for Non-European Countries, Economic and Development Cooperation of the Czech Republic, at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya.

Minister Nyirabashitsialso called for further cooperation in other areas such as health, infrastructure, and agriculture development.
Ms. Katerina Sequensova expressed appreciation for Uganda’s role in regional security matters. “Your efforts in stabilizing the region are admirable. We understand that your country hosts a large number of refugees, which impacts housing, healthcare, and schooling,” she said. Ms. Sequensova also emphasized the Czech Republic’s commitment to strengthening the relationship between the two countries, especially in defence.
Ms. Sequensova was accompanied by Ambassador Nicol Adamcová, the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Uganda, Mr. Stephen Kaboyo, Mr. Jan Spiler, Chief of Intergovernmental Defence Cooperation Lt. Col. Borijov Jurenka, the Military and Air Defence Attaché, and Mr. Vaclav Prasil, Director of Sub-Saharan Africa.
