KAMPALA: The Uganda Law Society (ULS) has strongly condemned the abduction of Retired Major Ronald Iduli, a prominent lawyer and member of the Society.
Iduli, who is representing Dr. Kizza Besigye, a renowned opposition leader, and Hajji Obed Kamulegeya in their case before the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) General Court Martial in Makindye, Kampala, was reportedly abducted from his home in Bulenga, Wakiso District.
According to ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde, the incident occurred at 4:00 am on Tuesday in what he described as a brazen attempt to intimidate and silence not just Iduli but the entire legal profession.
“This is a blatant attack on the independence of the legal profession. We will not be cowed,” Ssemakadde asserted.

The ULS President demanded that authorities take immediate action to secure Iduli’s safe release and hold those responsible accountable.
He also called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and UPDF leadership to conduct a thorough investigation and provide a comprehensive report on the matter.
“To our members and the general public, we say: enough is enough! We will not stand idly by while our colleagues are harassed and intimidated. We will fight for our rights and for justice,” Ssemakadde declared.
The abduction has sparked outrage among legal professionals and human rights activists, with many calling for urgent government intervention to protect members of the legal fraternity and uphold the rule of law.
