Ugandan Contingent Joins EAC Armed Forces Training Exercise in Rwanda

Maj Gen Francis M Takirwa, the Deputy Commander Land Forces of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), ceremonially flagged off the contingent on Wednesday.

The training, dubbed USHIRIKIANO IMARA 2024, is taking place at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy (NCOA) in Jinja City, Rwanda.

Bringing together participants from Rwanda, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and Kenya, the exercise focuses on enhancing readiness and interoperability among partner states’ armed forces, police, civilian components, and other stakeholders.

Its scope includes planning and executing integrated missions covering peace support operations, disaster management, counter-terrorism, and counter-piracy efforts.

Maj Gen Takirwa emphasized the importance of professionalism and discipline among participants to achieve the exercise’s objectives.

Scheduled from June 7th to June 26th, 2024, the Field Training Exercise is set to provide invaluable training opportunities and foster regional cooperation in addressing security concerns.
