Police in Kabale District have arrested three individuals for questioning following the death of a man who went missing shortly after participating in celebrations for a local political victory.
Silivano Bikorwomuhangi, a man in his 60s and a resident of Bugo Village in Musamba Parish, Rubaya Sub-county, was reported missing on Tuesday night.
He had been celebrating the election of Wilber Turyazayo as the new Local Council 1 (LC1) chairman and National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Bugo Village.
Turyazayo had defeated Henry Tumwijukye, a close relative of Bikorwomuhangi.
During the celebrations, tensions reportedly arose when Tumwijukye and his supporters accused Bikorwomuhangi of betraying family ties by not supporting Tumwijukye’s candidacy.
Bikorwomuhangi never returned home that night. His body was discovered the following day, Wednesday, at around 7 PM along a footpath near the home of his second wife.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, stating that three suspects are in custody at Kabale Police Station to assist with investigations.
However, Maate withheld their identities to avoid compromising the ongoing inquiry.
