The body of Sr. Stellah Kempokya, an 80-year-old nun attached to the Daughters of Our Lady of Fatima in Kabale Diocese, was on Monday laid to rest at Rushoraza Cemetery in Kabale District.
Sr. Kempokya passed away on Saturday due to an intestinal obstruction, just days after being discharged from Our Lady of Good Health – Rushoraza Hospital in Kabale Municipality.
According to Sr. Scholastica Kyobutungi, the Superior General of the Daughters of Our Lady of Fatima, the late Kempokya was born in Rweminago Village, Kituura Parish in Kiruhura District. She joined the congregation in 1972 and had served faithfully for 53 years.
“She was a hardworking advisor, counselor, and servant of God who remained true to the traditions of Our Lady of Fatima,” Sr. Kyobutungi eulogized.
Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Nicholas Kamara, commended the congregation for their dedication to caring for elderly sisters, describing their work as a noble service to humanity.
Delivering his homily, Rev. Fr. Placid Mugumya, Secretary to the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, said the late nun had devoted her life to serving God and the Church. He reminded mourners that while death is frightening, it should be seen with hope and faith since it holds no meaning without the resurrection.
Fr. Mugumya urged Christians to draw closer to Christ and grow in love for Him, noting that such faith provides strength in moments of grief.
