Vice President Alupo to Address Thousands at Teso Women’s Conference in Katakwi

KATAKWI: The Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Rt. Major Jessica Alupo Epel, is expected to be the chief guest at the women’s conference today (Saturday).

Fr. Hilary Eragu, in charge of social communication at Soroti Catholic Diocese, stated that the diocese is ready to “pack with the Holy Spirit” for the event.

“This year’s women’s conference has attracted more than 10,000 women from various Catholic parishes across Eastern and North East Teso,” Eragu said.

He added that Rt. Bishop Dr. Joseph Eciru Oliach is also expected to close the conference with a blessed sermon and words of wisdom before the Vice President addresses the gathering.

While patrolling the Katakwi Boma grounds where the women are gathered, the district head of security and Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Katamba, assured that the event will end successfully with no incidents of violence, citing tight security measures in place to maintain peace.

The conference, which began on September 3 and will run until September 7, has drawn over ten thousand women to St. Stephen Catholic Parish and the Boma grounds in Katakwi. The annual event brings together participants from the eleven districts of Teso, with Katakwi hosting this year.

Speaking at the grounds on September 5, 2024, Katamba confirmed that there have been no reports of violence thanks to the strong police presence. He urged the people of Katakwi to cooperate with visitors from other districts to build mutual relationships and strengthen their faith.

Participants such as Sarah Amulen from Katakwi, Hellen Alupo from Kumi, and Ketty Acom from Amuria expressed their joy in being part of the conference, stating that it has given them strength and a sense of community.

The conference has attracted women from several districts, including Bukedea, Pallisa, Ngora, Kumi, Soroti City, Kalaki, Kaberamaido, Soroti, Kapelebyong, Amuria, as well as participants from Karamoja and other sub-regions.
