Elections for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) village leadership in Kisoro Municipality were marred by violence, allegations of voter bribery, participation by ineligible individuals, and notably low voter turnout.

In Kisoro Hill, Central Ward, Shaban Maniragaba, who lost to Sam Munezero and Zawadi Bahati, accused the organizers of allowing non-residents to vote individuals he claimed were unfamiliar to the community.

He further alleged that underage children, who were not listed in the party register, were permitted to cast ballots. Maniragaba said he has already petitioned the NRM office, demanding a re-election.

In Kibande Cell, Busamba Ward of the Southern Division, several residents boycotted the election, citing irregularities. They claimed non-residents were allowed to vote, and some even appeared on the village register despite coming from neighboring areas.

Meanwhile, in Gishegyera Cell, Nyakabingo Ward, voter turnout was dismal, with fewer than 50 people participating out of the 902 registered in the NRM yellow book.

Voter Sunday Andrew expressed disappointment over the low turnout and claimed the register was filled with names of individuals who do not reside in the area.
