KABALE: The Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged and remanded a 33-year-old businessman from Wakiso District to Ndorwa Government Prison on four counts of forgery and uttering false documents.
The convict, Gerald Ngabirano, a resident of Nankuwade, Bulenga in Wakiso District, appeared before the Kabale Chief Magistrates Court, presided over by Derrick Byamugisha. Ngabirano was remanded until March 4th, 2025, when he will return to court for the hearing of his bail application.
Through his lawyers, Ngabirano had requested bail, but his Worship Byamugisha noted that time had already elapsed and adjourned the case. However, Ngabirano denied all charges.

Mariam Natasha, the Public Relations Officer of the state House Anti-Corruption Unit, says that in January 2025, they received a tip-off from a whistleblower regarding an attempted fraud on a bank account belonging to Karekezi Stephen held at DFCU Bank in Kampala. She said that Ngabirano together with others still at large, had illicitly acquired garnishee orders from His Worship Tumwebaze Kenneth, the Deputy Registrar of the High Court in Kabale.
“These court orders instructed DFCU Bank to disburse over Shs 689,750,300 Million from the account of Karekezi Stephen, purportedly to settle a non-existent debt owed to Ngabirano”. She noted.

She revealed that the suspects submitted fabricated documents and other misleading information, thereby manipulating the legal system to secure the issuance of the court orders for the attachment of monies on the account
Fortunately, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit acted promptly to instruct DFCU Bank to freeze the account preventing any financial loss.
