Summary:

  • “We were called by the administration of the venue, and they told us that they only host NRM functions. We had booked the venue, we had paid for it, but they informed us that it is risky for them to host us. Therefore, they decently turned us down and said straight to our faces that they will not host us,” Kyagulanyi said.

MBARARA: The President of the National Unity Platform Party, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, and his team did not hold a planned mobilization rally in Isingiro.

Unlike in Ishaka Bushenyi, Rukungiri, and Ntungamo District, where Kyagulanyi and his team held successful rallies, their hopes were dashed on Friday when they were unable to conduct a rally in Isingiro.

Addressing the press in Mbarara City on Friday morning, Kyagulanyi explained that they were informed by the administration of the booked venue that it only hosted NRM functions.

He added, “That left us with only one option, going to Isingiro to the radio station which has not yet blocked us. We have no other means other than addressing our people using radio.”

“Today, as we headed to Isingiro, the regime has been working so hard to frustrate us. The owner of the venue for our rally was intimidated and canceled our booking at the last minute. Regime operatives insisted we could only have our rally over eight miles away from the town. Totally unacceptable!” Kyagulanyi stated.
