Persistent classroom shortages and congestion at New Victory Community School in Rubaare Sub-county, Ntungamo District have once again highlighted infrastructure gaps in rural schools, even as the institution posts strong academic results.

The challenges came into sharp focus on Thursday, when Jonan Muhumuza, an Educationist in the area donated 100 bags of cement and Shs2 million to support the construction of additional classrooms at the school in Kyanyanzira Cell. He also provided Shs300,000 to facilitate transportation of the materials.

School administrators say the donation addresses an urgent need for more learning space. Headteacher Wilson Ndyabura noted that inadequate classrooms have forced the school to combine classes, particularly during the rainy season.

“We have been struggling with congestion. On rainy days, different classes are forced to share one room, which affects concentration and effective learning,” Ndyabura said.

Despite the infrastructure constraints, the school has maintained strong academic performance. In the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), all 32 registered candidates passed, with 16 in First Grade and 16 in Second Grade.

Local leaders who attended the handover said the situation at New Victory Community School reflects broader infrastructure challenges facing community-founded schools in rural areas, where enrolment often outpaces available facilities.

Residents welcomed the donation but called for sustained investment in education infrastructure to match growing learner numbers and maintain performance standards.
