MBARARA: Police in Mbarara City South Division are investigating the cause of suspected arson that occurred today at around 4:00 AM where fire gutted a boys’ dormitory at Shuhudal Islamic Secondary School in Nyamitanga Cell, Mbarara City South Division.
The dormitory, known as Darasalam, houses 202 students from S.2 and S.3.
The Police Fire and Rescue Services responded promptly to the scene after receiving the alert and, with the assistance of the Nyamitanga Diocese Fire Brigade, managed to extinguish the fire.
All students in the dormitory were able to escape without injuries, except for one student, Baingana Sulaiman, aged 17, who sustained injuries to his back and arms.
SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, reported that there was total damage to the property in the dormitory. However, the Police Fire Department successfully prevented the fire from spreading to other structures.
Kasasira added that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but investigations are ongoing.
