From Newsroom to Captain: GNTV Journalist Arinaitwe Earns Private Pilot License

KAMPALA: A talk show host and newsreader Journalist at Mbarara Based Television (GNTV) Wilberforce Arinaitwe commonly known as Kisooso has graduated and passed out with a Private Pilot license at Kubis Aviation College in Entebbe, Kampala.

Arinaitwe now ranked as “Captain” who hosts Eishengyero and Eidara Ryomusiguzi Program and reads Runyankore – Rukiga news at GNTV in Mbarara is among the 53 graduates that graduated in several disciplines at Kubis Aviation College. The function was presided over by the Minister of Works and Transport, General Edward Katumba Wamala who was represented by the Assistant Director Civil Aviation Authority, Oliver Nyebwa.

Captain Arinaitwe (35) a resident of Kasaana – Rugarama in Ntungamo District landed on the Opportunity after joining GNTV through the Speaker for Mbarara city, Hon Bonny  Tashobya who secured for him a sponsorship deal in piloting studies.

In 2019 during COVID-19 period he got admitted to Kubis Aviation College and trained for flight operations and proceeded with piloting with ocean heights.

“This milestone materialized through befriending people the Speaker for Mbarara city Hon Tashobya Bonny whom I told that I need to go for further studies when I joined GNTV. Hon Tashobya told me to start helping the government in collecting taxes from people as I wait for my application to be submitted for sponsorship in piloting. He followed everything and I am now passing out with a private pilot license”. Captain Arinaitwe stated.

He added “I will be flying with fly Dubai. It’s where the Civil Aviation Authority told me to go for experience”.

Captain Arinaitwe started schooling at Kagyeyo Primary school in 2000 where he completed his Primary level in 2010.

He joined ihunga Mugyera Basin secondary school (IMBASS) in 2011-2014 where he completed his S4.

“By that time things were not easy, I could study then in holidays I could remain at school cleaning compounds, digging toilets, cleaning everything and washing toilets every morning in order to allow me to study for the next term”. He said.

He added “During my Senior Four vacation, I went to Mbarara to look for jobs and I landed in place called Omuruti Owantengye Omukirehe, when I reached there they gave me a job of bricklaying where I was working for only lunch and i was sleeping outside because I had no money to rent where I stay”.

“I escaped from work after three days and asked for a job in Kazires factory where I was paid 70,000 per month”. He shared.

In 2015, he joined S5 at ihunga Mugyera Basin secondary school (IMBASS) and remained hustling for survival where people could look for money and buy books for him.

“My plan was to become a doctor but life was hard. They could chase me at school and stay home for some months because of no fees. I tried and finished S6 but my parents wanted me to be a bicycle mechanic because they had no money for my fees”. He said.

In 2016, he joined ACCT Kabale and attained Diploma in Mass communication where he had an opportunity to work with Rubanda FM.

He later joined Hills Fm and started as marketing personnel in 2017.

He also worked with Diocese of Kigezi Revival radio for three months before getting a scholarship at Ibanda University for a Degree in Mass communication where he also got an opportunity of getting employed at GNTV in Mbarara.
