The Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), through the Directorate of Education Standards (DES), has trained 106 teachers in Kapelebyong District on the effective use of the Teacher Effectiveness and Learner Achievement (TELA) system.

The training targeted head teachers from both primary and secondary schools, particularly head teachers and Information Communication Technology (ICT) teachers. The hands-on, one-day training was recently held at Kapelebyong Primary School.

During the training, participants learned how to upload school timetables onto the TELA system, generate learner attendance reports, and produce teacher attendance reports. The initiative is aimed at strengthening school monitoring and improving the quality of learning in schools.

Stephen Olinga, the Senior Inspector of Schools in Kapelebyong, described the training as timely, noting that the automated system will strengthen accountability among teachers and improve coordination between teachers and school administrators.

“This will improve teacher time-on-task attendance, which in some cases has previously been compromised by some teaching staff,” Olinga said. “With the help of the automated TELA system, we shall now understand the reasons behind each learner’s performance.”

“An automated TELA system will help the education department conduct on-the-spot supervision of schools in the district since the necessary data will be easily accessible,” Okengo noted.

He urged teachers to effectively utilise the system to enhance performance standards and achieve better learning outcomes.

The training was facilitated by Starin Musimenta and Babirye Cedella from the Ministry of Education and Sports under the Directorate of Education Standards. Musimenta encouraged participants to always seek clarification on any aspects of the system they may not understand to ensure its effective use.
