Kasese Youth Link Director Kato Urges Students to Combat Domestic Violence to Improve Education

KASESE: The Executive Director of Kasese Youth Link for Development, Ronald Kato has called upon students in the district to join the fight against domestic violence, a significant factor affecting the education sector.

Kato made this appeal while addressing students at Holy Dove Vocational Secondary School, Morning Star Secondary School, and Munkunyu Secondary School during a tour aimed at imparting knowledge on effectively dealing with domestic violence challenges at home.

Kato highlighted that domestic violence can be mitigated through various measures, including attending church services, participating in peace clubs that promote development, and embracing education.

Addressing the wider community, Kato emphasized that domestic violence can be prevented if all family members engage in productive work, practice unity, and work together towards family development. He encouraged students to emulate these values at school.

Kato also pointed out that school-going children, especially girls, often face violence, particularly when boys treat them poorly during their menstrual periods. He stressed that criticism from schoolmates constitutes violence and must be stopped.

Some students shared that violence against them has been decreasing since the introduction of Kasese Youth Link for Development groups in different schools. These groups have been educating students about peacebuilding and providing training in practical agriculture, among other initiatives.
