Residents of Kanyankwanzi Village in Bukora Parish, Kitumba Sub-county, Ndorwa West Constituency, Kabale District, have criticized their area Member of Parliament, David Kwesiga Bahati, for what they describe as poor service delivery that has left Kanyankwanzi Primary School in a deplorable state.
The concerns were raised during a consultative meeting held on Tuesday at Kanyankwanzi Church of Uganda, organized by Counsel Eliab Naturinda Mporera, the aspiring NRM Member of Parliament for Ndorwa West. The meeting attracted hundreds of residents from the villages of Kanyankwanzi, Kijurere, and Kagugo.
Among the concerned residents were Niwomuntu Brian Oscar and Michael Musinguzi, both alumni of the school who pointed fingers at Minister Bahati for neglecting repeated pleas from local leaders to renovate the dilapidated institution.
They said that the school has been in a sorry state since as far back as 1992.
“We made several appeals to the current MP, but our requests have been ignored.” Musinguzi said.
Alfred Asiimwe, a retired teacher at Kanyankwanzi Primary School, revealed that most of the current structures were erected by parents before the government took over the school. He lamented that despite the school being under government management, its infrastructure remains rundown.
“Some of the classrooms are uninhabitable and lack basic furniture,” Asiimwe said. “Even during my time as a teacher, we repeatedly requested support from MP Bahati, but nothing was done.”
Gideon Tumwakiire, the LC1 Chairperson of Kanyankwanzi Village, noted that the school’s condition began to deteriorate in the early 2000s, leading to a sharp decline in student enrollment over the years.

In response, Counsel Eliab Naturinda Mporera attributed the school’s decline to selfish leadership in the area. He urged parents not to lose hope but to continue investing in their children’s education for a better future.
“Despite the challenges, we must prioritize education to nurture responsible citizens,” Mporera said.
