KANUNGU: The Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has launched a multi-million state-of-the-art Digital Community Center at San Giovanni School to combat computer illiteracy among students and the wider community in Makiro, Kanungu District.
The Digital Community Center, funded by American Tower Corporation Uganda (ATC), a provider of wireless and broadcast towers, is fully equipped with 20 computers and wireless internet. While officiating at the launch on Friday, Minister Baryomunsi acknowledged the government’s support for ICT education but noted that many schools, especially in rural areas, still lack the necessary facilities, computers, and digital devices. He emphasized that this disparity has led to inequalities, as all schools, regardless of location, are subjected to the same ICT examination.
Minister Baryomunsi expressed gratitude for partners like American Tower Corporation Uganda (ATC) for their contribution towards improving education standards in the country. He also revealed the government’s plan to provide computers to every secondary school across Uganda as part of its efforts to promote digitalization.
