KISORO: Police in Kisoro district have thwarted a potential strike at St. Paul’s Mutolere Secondary School, reportedly orchestrated by disruptive students reacting to the dismissal of their peers.
Kisoro District Resident Commissioner, Hajji Badru Ssebyala says that he received credible information from Kisoro District Police Commander, SSP Banerd Mugerwa, regarding the situation that unfolded at Mutolere Secondary School on Tuesday night. The school administration alerted the authorities upon uncovering the students’ plans.
The strike was purportedly in protest of the school’s decision to expel two students caught smoking marijuana, seen as a disciplinary measure. It’s alleged that these two suspended students remained at the school, influencing their peers to retaliate against the dismissals.
RDC Ssebyala disclosed that police intervened decisively, employing measures including firing warning shots and dispersing tear gas to thwart the planned strike. He sternly warned against such acts of defiance and urged parents to work closely with educators to guide their children’s conduct.
