Authorities in Rubanda district Local government on Tuesday this Week commissioned the construction of dormitories for students at St John’s Secondary school Ikumba in Hamurwa Town Council, and St Andrew’s secondary school in Rubanda Town Council, all costing about 600 million shillings.
The construction of two dormitories at St John’s Secondary school Ikumba including that of boys and girls separately will be undertaken by Geses Uganda Limited owned by Eng Peter Nkurunungi, while the same project at St Andrew’s Secondary school is contracted by Bonnar Company limited owned by Francis Bonanza.
During the function to handover the construction works to the contractors on Tuesday at St John’s Ikumba and at St Andrew’s S.S Rubanda, the Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Steven Ampeire Kasyaba said that the funds are part of the 9 billion shillings, additional funding to the district budget, among other projects which the intend to work on.
Speaking at the same function, the Rubanda Resident District Commissioner, Lilian Ruteraho, asked the contractors to execute the works following the Bills of Quantities in order to maintain the good name as the best contractors in the district.
The Head teacher of St John’s Secondary school Ikumba, Odeth Karambuzi said that since the establishment of the school by Kabale diocese in 1994 up to 2018 when it was fully taken up by the government as, they had not received any support of structures.
She added that the school has an enrollment of 437 students and they have been failing to admit many border students due to lack of structures.
