RUBANDA: The Rubanda District LC5 Vice Chairperson, Prossy Kesafari, has underscored the importance of encouraging girls to pursue Information and Communication Technology (ICT) studies to ensure they can compete in today’s technology-driven world and job market.
While addressing the congregation at the launch of a computer laboratory construction at St. Agatha Girls Secondary School – Kakore, located in Hamurwa Sub-County, Rubanda District on Tuesday, Kesafari stressed the need for girls to embrace ICT education in order to thrive in the digital age.
She highlighted that the world has become increasingly digital, and it is essential for the girl child to keep up with the technological shifts, as everything from job interviews to obtaining travel passports is now facilitated through technology, with much of the work conducted online. Kesafari called on the government to allocate more funds to enhance computer skills for girls, enabling them to succeed in the current tech-centric era.
Meanwhile, the Rubanda Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Eric Ssewandigi, cautioned the contractor against poor workmanship and stressed the need for accurate financial accountability and value for money. He urged the school’s head teacher, Kereson Katongole, to take on the role of direct supervisor to ensure quality standards throughout the construction process.
The computer laboratory block, now 65% complete, is valued at 470 million shillings and is being built by Archcivil Contractors and Builders Ltd. According to the project contractor and director, Eng. Anatoli Mucunguzi, the construction is slated for completion by May 7, 2026.
Once completed, the laboratory will offer a state-of-the-art facility where students can advance their ICT knowledge, equipping them with the skills needed to meet the demands of the modern world
