The Kabale District LCV Chairperson, Denis Nzeirwe Ndyomugyenyi, has flagged off seven students who secured admission to public universities under the District Quota Scheme for the 2026/2027 academic year, urging them to remain disciplined and focused on their studies.
The flag-off ceremony was held at the Kabale District Boardroom and attended by the students, their parents, district officials, and education stakeholders.
The beneficiaries are Niwaheereza Blessing, who has been admitted to Makerere University to pursue a Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration, Faith Kirabo, who will study Bachelor of Optometry at Makerere University, Rinah Nankunda, Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration at Makerere University, Victory Orishaba, Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance at Lira University, Ezra Akampurira, Bachelor of Science in Forestry at Makerere University, Paul Atwebembeire, Bachelor of Information Technology at Mountains of the Moon University and Justine Ndyanabo, who will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying at Makerere University.
Addressing the gathering, Nzeirwe congratulated the students upon earning the highly competitive scholarships and commended the Kabale District Education Department for its continued efforts in enabling learners to access higher education through the District Quota Scheme.
He also applauded parents for investing in their children’s education, describing education as the most valuable gift they can give to secure their children’s future.
The district chairperson cautioned the students against being distracted by university life, urging them to remain committed to their academic goals.
“You have worked hard to reach this stage. Do not become carried away by the excitement of joining university. Stay focused on your studies and remember what has brought you this far,” Nzeirwe advised.
He further praised the growing number of girls accessing higher education, attributing the trend to the government’s affirmative action policies and sustained efforts to promote girls’ education.
He also commended the Government of Uganda for expanding access to education and creating opportunities that have enabled more young people to pursue university studies.
Nzeirwe encouraged the students to become worthy ambassadors of Kabale District by maintaining discipline, excelling academically, and appreciating government programmes that continue to widen access to higher education.
Kabale District Education Officer Moses Tumwijukye Bwengye challenged the students to uphold the district’s reputation through academic excellence, integrity, and responsible conduct while at university.
He warned them against negative peer influence and risky behaviours that could jeopardize their education and future careers.
Bwengye urged the beneficiaries to make wise decisions, work diligently, and fully utilise the opportunity provided through the District Quota Scheme to transform their lives and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
