SOROTI: Over 20 students out of 180 have failed to appear for the UBTEB semester examinations at UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Soroti District, as confirmed by Tom Okello, the academic registrar.
In an interview with our publication, Okello revealed that this group of students comprises individuals who have outstanding fees. He explained that despite the school’s previous leniency towards allowing such students to take exams, recent directives from the main campus of Kampala have enforced stricter policies, disallowing candidates with outstanding balances from sitting for exams.
This shortfall affects various courses offered at the institution, including Journalism, Secretarial Studies, Records Keeping and Management, Public Administration, and Business Administration.
Okello further elaborated that they have been instructed to permit exams only for candidates with balances of less than one hundred shillings. Those who have missed the current exams will have the opportunity to sit for them during the next semester in December.
The examinations commenced on Monday and are scheduled to continue for two weeks nationwide. Okello emphasized the importance of parents remaining vigilant in settling school fees promptly to prevent a recurrence of such situations in the future.
