Police have launched investigations into five assault cases and several other election-related incidents that occurred during the Local Council I (LC I) Chairperson General Elections in the Rwenzori East Region.

According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the incidents stemmed from election-related misunderstandings, including disputes involving unregistered voters, disagreements over vote counting, and one case of threatening violence.

Maate said the cases were among a handful of isolated incidents registered during the elections, with investigations already underway.

He also revealed that security personnel responded to minor disturbances in Kakongye II, Kakoni Cell, and Kyakitale A in Katwe-Kabatoro. The disturbances followed a tie in the voting process, prompting a repeat vote that was conducted successfully under the supervision of security agencies and election officials.
