Farmers in Kafunjo Village, Bucundura Parish, Kashambya Sub county, Rukiga District, have been trained and empowered with essential skills to enhance Irish potato production.
According to Rev. Fr. Herbert Agaba, the Bucundura Parish Priest, the partnership aims to improve agricultural production and alleviate poverty among Christians.

The Director of the National Agricultural Research Organization, Jerome Kubiriba, based at the Kachwekano Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Company in Kabale District, commended the church for providing land for the establishment of demonstration farms. These farms have trained farmers on how to eliminate low yields in agriculture.
Kubiriba was startled by statistics indicating the high levels of poverty in the Kigezi region, ranking it fourth compared to other regions of the country. He expressed dismay regarding the hard work that the Bakiga people put into farm work, yet they still register low levels of production, leading to high poverty levels, which NARO intends to eliminate.

Bandaganire Erineho, the Chairman of LC3 Kashambya Subcounty, Rukiga District, encouraged the population to reduce using much of their productive land for tree planting and instead engage more in crop farming. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the expertise of agricultural experts from NARO, who have chosen their area as a model parish.
