The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has urged Ugandans to make cleanliness a daily responsibility instead of waiting for designated national cleaning days.

Archbishop Kaziimba made the call on Saturday after joining residents of Kitgum District in cleaning Kitgum Main Market as part of the National Cleaning Exercise held on the last Saturday of every month.

Archbishop Kaziimba said families, schools and churches should deliberately teach children the importance of personal hygiene and keeping their surroundings clean.

“Cleanliness should not only be practised during national cleaning days. It should become part of our daily lives, beginning with our homes and extending to our communities,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

He also urged parents and other community leaders to instil good hygiene practices in children from an early age, saying this would help create a generation that understands cleanliness as a personal responsibility.
