KISORO: The Member of Parliament for Bukimbiri County, Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wa-Gahungu, has donated ten mattresses worth over one million shillings to Iremera HCIII in Nyanamo Town Council, addressing the longstanding issue of dilapidated mattresses and beds at the facility.

Iremera Health Center, located in the heart of Nyanamo Town Council, serves thousands of residents both within and outside the town. Despite its crucial role, the facility faces numerous challenges, including a shortage of staff, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of hospital beds and mattresses.

MP Kwizera has been vocal in criticizing the district’s health department for failing to adequately address these issues. In response, he has personally ensured the comfort of patients at the facility by using his own resources to purchase wooden beds and mattresses.

On Tuesday, the MP delivered an additional ten mattresses after previous ones were reported as worn out or stolen. These mattresses were handed over to Kateriteri HCIII In-Charge, Dushimimana Emmanuel, by Atuhaire Felix and the Nyanamo Town Council Mayor, Karuru Geoffrey, on behalf of the legislator.

During his speech, Atuhaire Felix highlighted that Hon. Kwizera is fully aware of the challenges faced by the facility and is working diligently to ensure that quality healthcare services are provided to his constituents.

In a statement, In-Charge Dushimimana expressed gratitude for the donation, acknowledging the dire need for mattresses at the facility. He appealed for further support, noting that the beds are outdated and many blankets have been stolen by patients upon discharge.

The Chairperson of the facility’s management board, Canon Kwiringyira Christopher also extended his thanks to Hon. Kwizera, emphasizing that the donation was timely, as some patients had begun to avoid the facility due to its poor condition.

In a phone interview, Hon. Kwizera reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the people of Bukimbiri County, stating that similar initiatives will be rolled out across the county, tailored to the specific needs identified by local leaders.
