Health Experts Advocate for Ambulances at Health Center IVs in Kigezi

KABALE – Health professionals in Kigezi Sub-region are urging the Ministry of Health to allocate an ambulance to each Health Center IV to address the challenges of patient inaccessibility in the region.

Dr. Abdon Birungi, the Chairperson of District Health Officers in the Six Districts comprising Kigezi Sub-region, highlights the difficulties faced by ambulances currently serving the area, particularly in reaching remote and hard-to-access locations during emergencies.

Dr. Birungi, who also serves as the District Health Officer for Rubanda, points out that most Health Center IV facilities rely on ambulances stationed at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, which sometimes struggle to provide services in certain areas within the region.

He emphasizes that equipping Health Center IVs with their own ambulances will significantly improve the region’s referral system, especially for expectant mothers and accident victims.

However, the Ministry of Health spokesperson, Emmanuel Ainebyooba, emphasizes the importance of ensuring that existing Health Center IVs are fully functional. He emphasizes that the need for ambulances at Health Center IVs should be minimal, with referrals reserved for complex cases.

Ainebyoona challenges all District Health Officers in the region to focus on optimizing the operations of Health Center IVs.
