Leaders in Kabale District have commissioned a retaining wall at Kahondo Health Centre III in Maziba Sub-county, a major infrastructure project aimed at protecting the facility from environmental hazards and improving healthcare service delivery.

The retaining wall, constructed at the health centre in Rukore Village, Kahondo Parish, was built by Geses Uganda Limited at a cost of Shs 317.5 million. The project also included compound paving, installation of guardrails, and implementation of environmental and social safeguard measures.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Kabale District Health Officer Dr. Gilbert Arinaitwe Mateeka described the project as a significant boost to the health facility’s infrastructure. He noted, however, that the health centre still faces challenges related to inadequate electricity supply because the area is not yet connected to the national power grid, limiting the provision of some essential health services.

Kabale Chief Administrative Officer Robert Mugabe commended the contractor for delivering quality work, saying the retaining wall will play a vital role in protecting the health facility from potential destruction caused by floods and soil erosion.

Kabale District LCV Chairperson Denis Nzeire Ndyomugyenyi urged residents living near the facility to construct trenches around their homes to control runoff water that could threaten the newly completed structure. He also praised health workers for their commitment and dedication, noting that their efforts have greatly contributed to improved healthcare services in the area.

He reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector through continued investment in healthcare infrastructure, noting that improved facilities will enhance access to essential health services.

He added that ongoing improvements in the health sector are in line with the fourth pillar of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto 2026–2031, which focuses on strengthening social service delivery and improving the quality of life of Ugandans.
