“Although the government is addressing infrastructure issues, they should also focus on staff housing, which is inadequate in most health units,” Acanit said.
Francis Aruo, chairman LCIII of Magoro Sub County, expressed gratitude to the government for its initiative to improve the health sector.
“Magoro sub-county has more than twenty thousand people who rely on the nearby facility for healthcare, including some parts of the town council,” Aruo said.
He urged the community to actively monitor government programs to facilitate their implementation.
Dr. Simon Icumar Omeke, the District Health Officer of Katakwi, revealed that the construction is complete and they are now waiting for the Bank of Uganda to finalize the procurement of equipment.
Omeke mentioned that once the equipment is delivered, Her Excellency Jessica Rose Alupo Epel, the Vice President, will be invited to officially commission the facility this month.
The facility is expected to receive modern delivery beds for the maternity ward, general delivery beds, and other essential items. Dr. Omeke highlighted that refurbishing the health facility will improve access to health services for the people of Magoro and other hard-to-reach sub-counties in Katakwi.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey Omolo, chairman LCV of Katakwi district, remarked that the government’s goal is to ensure better health for all individuals. Omolo added that the district plans to address the low staffing levels in various health centers, which has forced some nurses to work extended hours.
According to Omolo, Magoro Health Centre III serves the people of Magoro Sub County, Magoro Town Council, Ngariam, and Omodoi.
Andrew Joseph Koluo, the Member of Parliament for Toroma County, commended the Bank of Uganda for giving back to the community through their corporate social responsibility program.
He also challenged the leadership of Katakwi district local government to recruit more health workers to ensure timely patient care.
