Patients received free procedures that involved repairing broken bones, reconstructing damaged skin, and restoring soft tissue, all performed within a single specialized department.

According to Dr. Joseph Malagala, an orthopedic surgeon at Mulago Hospital, the initiative was carried out in collaboration with medical professionals from the Netherlands, who have continuously supported the hospital in managing bone and soft tissue conditions.

He noted that the majority of fracture cases result from boda boda (motorcycle) accidents, adding that the hospital receives between 10 and 20 such cases daily.

“Previously, patients had to undergo separate treatments for bone fractures and soft tissue or muscle injuries, but with this collaboration, we can now handle all procedures at once,” Dr. Malagala explained.
