Thirteen people have been arrested in Kagadi District for presenting forged academic documents during the ongoing Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise.
The suspects, 11 men and two women, were found with fake Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) slips, forged Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) certificates, falsified Senior Four testimonials for 2024, and counterfeit identification cards.
Kagadi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nanshemeza Caroline condemned the act, calling it unnecessary given the availability of free primary and secondary education.
She urged parents and guardians to utilise government programmes to ensure children receive proper education instead of resorting to forgery.
The suspects have been handed to police for investigation.
UPDF Recruitment Team 5 Public Information Officer, Captain Wilson Kato Agaba, warned candidates against cheating, noting that their professional screening team can easily detect forgeries.
Of 88 shortlisted candidates, 61, including four women, were successfully recruited in Kagadi. The team will proceed to Kibaale District before concluding the exercise in Kakumiro later this week.
