KAMPALA – The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has issued an order prohibiting live coverage and the publication of images in the corruption case against state minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu.
This decision came after an application by state Attorney David Bisamunyu, who sought to regulate media coverage, arguing that the right to information should be balanced to protect their two witnesses.
Justice Jane Kajuga Okuo, while delivering her ruling, expressed concerns that the witnesses might be intimidated, potentially leading to a miscarriage of justice.
As a result, the court decided to limit media coverage to audio-only, allowing the press to report on the proceedings without sharing visual information.
Nandutu faces allegations of involvement in the diversion of iron sheets intended for vulnerable individuals in the Karamoja sub-region. The charges against her include dealing with suspect property.
According to the prosecution, during June 2022, at the office of the Prime Minister’s Stores in Namanve and Kkola cell, Bulwanyi Parish, Mukono district, the minister was found to have dealt with 2,000 pre-painted iron sheets of gauge 28.
She allegedly received and held the said government property, with reason to believe that the iron sheets were acquired as a result of the loss of public property—an offense under the Anti-Corruption Act.
