NEWS: Amidst rumors circulating about the alleged disappearance of former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Dr. Kizza Besigye Kifefe in Kenya, his wife, Ms Winnie Byanyima, has reportedly revealed that Besigye is currently detained in a military jail in Kampala.

Ms Byanyima, in a post on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, stated that Besigye was kidnapped last Saturday while in Nairobi attending Honorable Martha Karua’s book launch.

She expressed her concern, saying: “We, his family and his lawyers, demand to see him. He is not a soldier. Why is he being held in a military jail? I am reliably informed that he is in a military jail in Kampala.”

Ms Byanyima has called on the Ugandan government to release Besigye immediately, emphasizing that his detention is unjustified.

Meanwhile, Kisoro District LC5 Chairman, Mr Abel Bizimana, has condemned the alleged actions against Besigye, warning that such incidents could destabilize the country and the East African Community.

“Whoever mooted the idea to hide or harm Besigye is an enemy of Uganda and the East African Community. We don’t need this at this time. Why push us towards chaos instead of building Uganda and our families? This and many other actions are derailing initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) to alleviate poverty,” he said.

Efforts to verify Besigye’s whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his reported arrest remain ongoing.
