Police in Bugiri District have launched a manhint for a suspect identified only as Teete following a successful operation by the Police Canine Unit that led to the recovery of property allegedly stolen during a burglary in Bugiri Municipality.
The burglary occurred on the night of 12th July 2026 in Kimombasa Cell, Ndifakulya Parish, Western Division, where unknown assailants broke into a resident’s home and stole a mattress, two pairs of bed sheets, saucepans, a bag containing an unspecified amount of money, a National Identification Card, and several other household items.
The incident was immediately reported to Police, who responded to the scene with the Police Canine Unit.
According to Uganda Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, Police sniffer dog T/P254 Monica was introduced to the scene and successfully picked up the suspects’ scent. The dog tracked for about 100 metres to a nearby salon that had also been broken into on the same night.
The tracking continued through several corridors and another route for nearly 800 metres before leading officers to a scrap yard and eventually to a boys’ quarters.
The sniffer dog finally stopped at the second door of a room believed to belong to the suspect, Teete. Although the suspect was not found at the premises, Police conducted a lawful search of the room.
During the search, the complainant identified one of his stolen bed sheets and a light-blue plastic plate stand. A second complainant, who operates the burglarized salon, also identified two plastic chairs, a hair dryer, light-blue towels, a green plastic bucket used for clothes, and carpets suspected to have been stolen during the break-in.
Kituuma said the recovered items have been secured as exhibits, while investigations are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspect.
