The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, has said Mitooma is already buzzing with excitement as the district prepares to receive the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Presidential Candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is expected to meet supporters and unpack his Manifesto tomorrow (Wednesday).
Tayebwa, who on Tuesday joined NRM leaders from across Mitooma at Kirambi Ruhinda Market for a final coordination meeting, revealed that momentum ahead of the President’s visit is at an all-time high.
He noted that the gathering was filled with confidence, unity, and determination as leaders refined plans to welcome the Head of State.
The Deputy Speaker was accompanied by several prominent leaders, including businessman and philanthropist King Ceasor Mulenga, whose presence further energized the meeting.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the Mitooma District NRM Youth Mobilisation Brigade. Tayebwa said the vibrant team of young mobilisers has already embarked on intensive groundwork — moving door-to-door, rallying fellow youth, and spreading campaign messages across villages.
He added that the brigade represents a new generation that strongly believes in President Museveni’s leadership and the NRM’s long-term vision, and is expected to deliver overwhelming support for the party’s candidates in the district.
With preparations complete, Tayebwa affirmed that Mitooma is fully ready to receive the President.
“We shall welcome the President with pride, unity, and unmatched love,” he assured, expressing confidence that the visit will further deepen support and solidarity for the NRM.
Meanwhile, President Museveni, who also serves as the incumbent Head of State, on Tuesday kicked off his campaign trail in Greater Bushenyi.
He began with a rally at Kizinda Playground in Bushenyi District, where he addressed enthusiastic supporters and urged them to vote for him and NRM candidates to consolidate the gains achieved as Uganda continues its march toward progress.
Visible signs of development under the NRM were highlighted across the district. Government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) have already reached 22,349 households, with more than Shs 25.9 billion disbursed. Emyooga SACCOs have benefited from Shs 2.4 billion, strengthening community-level enterprise development.
Infrastructure improvements, including new seed schools, upgraded health facilities, and expanded water supply systems, continue to transform rural communities. Bushenyi is also benefiting from ongoing irrigation projects, improved gravity-flow schemes, and the construction of piped water systems to close the remaining service gaps.
With 15 out of 17 sub-counties connected to the national electricity grid and plans underway to extend power to Kyamuhunga and Bitooma, the district is firmly on a path of sustained development.
Museveni later took his re-election campaign to Sheema District, accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni, where he presented his Manifesto to thousands of supporters at Kabwohe Main Stadium.
