The Electoral Commission has announced a change in the dates for displaying the National Voters’ Register and the Registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in preparation for the 2025/2026 General Elections.
The updated dates are as follows:
National Voters’ Register: 25th April to 15th May 2025
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Registers: 25th April to 8th May 2025
Previously, the display of the National Voters’ Register was set to begin on 17th April and end on 8th May 2025. However, following a press release issued on 14th April 2025 and signed by Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the exercise has been rescheduled.
The display will now begin on 25th April 2025 and conclude on 15th May 2025.
Additionally, the display period for the Voters’ Registers of Special Interest Groups, which include Youths, Persons with Disabilities, and Older Persons, was initially scheduled to run from 17th to 28th April 2025.
This has also been adjusted, and the new display dates are from 25th April to 8th May 2025.
Justice Byabakama further announced that the display period for recommendations regarding inclusions and deletions from the respective Parish Tribunals, as outlined in Section 26(2) of the Electoral Commission Act, will now take place from Friday, 16th May 2025 to Monday, 26th May 2025, at the respective parishes across the country.
The Chairman called on all stakeholders in the electoral process to actively participate in the display of the Voters’ Register and to adhere to the guidelines that will be issued for the exercise.
This is a critical step in preparation for the upcoming 2025/2026 General Elections.
The Electoral Commission is mandated under Article 61(1)(e) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995, as well as Sections 18 and 20 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176), to compile, maintain, revise, and update the National Voters’ Register.
This includes displaying the compiled and updated register in accordance with Section 26 of the said Act.
