Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Special Envoy for Special Duties in the Office of the President and former Prime Minister of Uganda (2014–2021), has paid tribute to his former classmate, Eric Tumwesigye, who passed away recently.
In a message shared via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Dr. Rugunda expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Tumwesigye, fondly remembering him as a brilliant student at Kigezi High School in 1962.
“We have learned with deep sorrow of the death of our colleague Eri Tumwesigye, also known as ‘Magician.’ He was nicknamed Magician for his extraordinary excellence, especially in Mathematics,” Rugunda wrote.
He recalled Tumwesigye’s academic brilliance, noting that he was among the top 20 students in the country in that year’s Junior Secondary Leaving Examinations, earning him a national scholarship.
Rugunda further noted that Tumwesigye went on to serve as a lecturer at the Uganda College of Commerce, contributing to the nation’s academic and professional development.
